WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT SUGAR ALCOHOLS

sugar alcohols are a form of carbohydrate that add some sweetness to foods and make them "sugar-free". the name 'sugar alcohols' derives from their chemical structure which is similar to sugar and alcohol.

the most common names for sugar alcohols are:

xylitol
erythritol
maltitol
sorbitol
mannitol
lactitol
isomalt

sugar alcohols come from various plants. these are practically carbs that our body doesn't absorb completely. they still affect blood glucose to a certain extent and they still count as carbs in your diet.. sugar alcohols are converted into glucose (blood sugar) slower and since our body doesn't absorb them properly, you can experience side effects such as bloating, gas, diarrhea... they also cause cravings, but only if you are on a low-carb diet or if you are avoiding carbs for some reason.
the positive side is that they are totally safe even for diabetics and that they don't cause tooth decay.
