COCONUT OIL - A NATURAL WONDER...

you can use it in the kitchen, for body care or for hundreds of other things. especially in summer, i love to spread a little coconut on my hair to protect them from sea salt and sun. i also use it instead of the body and face moisturizer.. it leaves the skin so soft. in winter it's perfect instead of the lip balm.

remember i told you not to combine fats and carbs together 'cos this combo promotes body fat storage?! this rule doesn't apply to coconut oil. coconut oil is an MCT oil (medium-chain triglycerides). these oils are less likely to get absorbed as fat compared to other oils which are long-chain triglycerides and are difficult to metabolize. this is why the body prefers to store them as fat.
MCT oils, on the other hand, provide quick energy for the body and they behave like a carbohydrate, not a fat.

coconut oil is also very thermogenic. it is scientifically proven that MCT oils burn 3 times more calories for 6 hours after a meal than other fats. they are ideal if you have digestive problems and don't tolerate fats very well. MCTs stimulate production of thyroid hormone, improving thyroid function and boosting the metabolism.

MCTs are also added to the diet of epileptic patients because they can help prevent seizures.
palm kernel oil (not to be confused with palm oil) and human milk are the other two great sources of MCTs.
